What kind of wedding will this be?

Our wedding will be a Catholic wedding ceremony with Mass, celebrated in Slovak, with a French reading, while the main parts of the ceremony will also be in English, so that all our guests can follow and feel included. The church ceremony, including the Mass, will take approximately 45–50 minutes.

For the celebration, we wished to create a meaningful and elegant moment shared with our closest family and friends. We will be a group of approximately 150 guests, which allows us to keep the atmosphere both festive and personal.

After the church ceremony, the celebration will continue at the château Galicia Nueva, which will be fully privatized for the occasion.

The overall style of the wedding will be formal, elegant, and timeless, and the celebration will also include traditional Slovak elements, along with a few surprises we hope you will enjoy.

What should I expect during the wedding itself?

To honour our Slovak heritage and share it with our international guests, several traditional Slovak wedding customs will be part of our celebration. These traditions have been passed down through generations and symbolise love, unity, and the beginning of a shared life together. Participation in all traditions is entirely optional and intended to be joyful, respectful, and inclusive.

Breaking of the Plate: At the beginning of the celebration, a plate is traditionally broken at the couple’s feet. The bride and groom then sweep the pieces together, symbolising unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility in marriage. It reflects the belief that challenges are best overcome together and that harmony in the home is built through teamwork and mutual support.

Čepčenie (Veil Ceremony): Taking place at midnight, čepčenie is one of the most meaningful Slovak wedding rituals. During this ceremony, the bride’s veil is removed and replaced with a traditional head covering, symbolising her transition from single life to married life and her new role within the family and community. This deeply symbolic moment is often emotional and marks the official conclusion of the formal wedding celebrations.

Redový Tanec (Dance with the Bride): The redový tanec is a joyful tradition in which guests are invited to share a short dance with the bride. Traditionally, guests offer a small symbolic monetary gift as a wish for happiness, good fortune, and prosperity for the newlyweds. Today, it remains a light-hearted and celebratory way for guests to personally take part in the couple’s new beginning.

We hope these traditions offer a meaningful glimpse into Slovak culture and add to the warmth, joy, and shared experience of our wedding day.

What would the language of the wedding be?

We are very happy that our wedding will be multicultural, bringing together family and friends of different nationalities, including Slovak, Belgian, and Spanish guests.

Throughout the celebration, a professional moderator will ensure the smooth flow of the event in Slovak and English, helping everyone feel included and comfortable during key moments of the programme.

Please feel free to approach him directly at any time, both before and during the event, should you have any logistical or programme-related questions.

Question 4

When should I confirm my attendance? And what if my plans change later?

Accepted Answer

We kindly ask all guests to confirm their attendance in the RSVP form no later than April 30th 2026, so we can finalise the arrangements with the venue and service providers.

We completely understand that unexpected situations may happen. If you need to cancel due to illness or other serious reasons, this is of course understandable. In such cases, please inform Simon or Katarína directly no later than 28 July 2026, so we can update the final guest count.

Please note that after this date, we will be charged the full cost for confirmed guests. We therefore kindly ask everyone to RSVP carefully and be mindful of the planning and budget involved.

Question 5

How am I supposed to dress?

We kindly invite our guests to dress in "formal elegance", reflecting a timeless, refined, and understated style.

Ladies: Long or midi dresses in elegant silhouettes. Muted, classic tones and soft colours are encouraged. Out of respect for the bride, white, ivory, cream, and similar bridal shades are kindly prohibited.

Gentlemen: Dark or neutral suits paired with classic shirts, tie/bow tie, along with polished leather shoes.
We kindly ask guests to avoid casual attire, denim, loud prints, or sporty elements, and thank you for helping us create a beautifully cohesive atmosphere.

Question 6

May I bring a plus one?

Accepted Answer

We are happy to celebrate this special day surrounded by the people who mean the most to us. Guests who received a plus one on their invitation are very welcome to bring their partner.

In general, we have invited spouses, fiancés, and long-term partners — especially those we already had the pleasure of meeting before.

Due to limited space, we unfortunately cannot extend additional invitations beyond those listed on your invitation.

Thank you for understanding and for helping us keep the celebration intimate and personal.

Question 7

What about kids?

Accepted Answer

Children are warmly welcome and we are very happy to celebrate this day with families present.

We would also love for children to be part of the ceremony. If they would like to join the wedding procession and walk into the church before the bride, they are very welcome to do so — we think it will make the moment even more special. If your child would like to participate, please let us know in the RSVP, so we can include them in the planning. If possible, we kindly suggest dressing children in light colours (white) to match the ceremony style.

At the same time, we kindly ask parents for their understanding that the ceremony and evening programme are centred around this special moment in our lives. We trust parents to use their best judgement and to step outside or take a short break should children become loud, restless, or distressed, particularly during the ceremony and speeches.

We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness in helping us preserve the atmosphere of this occasion.

A kids’ menu is available for children up to 10 years old. Please include children and their ages in your RSVP.

Question 8

What about dietary restrictions?

We look forward to celebrating with you over good food and shared moments throughout the day and evening.

During the cocktail hour, guests will be welcomed with a selection of small zakusky (traditional bite-sized treats). This will be followed by a four-course dinner, with beef as the main course. Later in the evening, a candy bar will be available, and at midnight, an evening buffet will be served, offering a variety of traditional Slovak delicacies.

Dinner courses will be served consecutively, with the next course arriving once the previous one has been finished. The hotel staff will only begin clearing plates once guests indicate that they have finished.

This service style may differ slightly from Belgian dining customs, where courses are often enjoyed over a longer period.

We are happy to accommodate special dietary preferences or requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, and gluten-free options. Our chef will prepare suitable alternatives with great care.

Please kindly let us know about any dietary requirements when completing your RSVP, so we can ensure everyone enjoys the celebration to the fullest.

Question 9

What about wedding gifts?

Accepted Answer

We do not have a wedding gift wish list or any similar registry, as your presence truly means the most to us.

If you would like to offer a gift, we would be grateful for something that helps us create lasting memories together — through a contribution (here is our bank account number BE52 7360 6913 6109) towards our honeymoon for example.

Instead of flowers, we would love for you to bring a nice book that should not be missed in our library, with a personal note or wish written inside. It would be a meaningful keepsake and a reminder of this day.

Question 10

What is the policy on alcohol, smoking, and other substances?

Accepted Answer

We are very much looking forward to celebrating together and will be serving alcohol throughout the wedding. We kindly encourage everyone to enjoy responsibly and in moderation, so we can preserve the elegant and joyful atmosphere of the day.

We also kindly ask all guests to respect that our wedding is a drug-free event, and we maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy for any type of drugs, including marijuana.

Regarding smoking, the venue has a designated indoor smoking area, and we kindly ask all guests who wish to smoke (including cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, or cigars) to use only this space. To ensure comfort for all guests — especially children and non-smokers — we would appreciate avoiding smoking in outdoor areas during official parts of the celebration.

Finally, we trust everyone to take care of the beautiful venue. In the unlikely event of any damages or inappropriate behaviour, responsibility (including any associated costs) would rest with the individual guest.
